So, this grand adventure began back in February 2018. We were looking at different houses, having a decent idea of what we wanted, needed, and what we did not want. We knew we wanted to have a home that felt welcoming, not overwhelming. Something that portrayed us both, something that we could grow into but wasn’t too much at first. I joked with my husband saying that, ‘as long as you have your garage, I will be alright with a ‘one-room-hut’ like in the wild west days.’ Which is honestly the truth. He needs a garage, not a garden shed, for his work. I just need a kitchen, bedroom and bathroom. The rest can come later as we need.
How many conversations we have had about what we ABSOLUTELY need, what would be NICE to have, and what we can live WITHOUT. How many times that we have said and continue to say, ‘this house would be great, it has all we need, and a little of what we want too’. We put the house-hunting on hold for awhile, almost 5 months, because of planning the wedding and all that was going on with moving, both my sister and I moved out of state within two months of each other.
Once we get to that stage, that is when we either book with our real estate agent (REA) that we are working with, or if it is for sale by owner, we call and set up a time to view it. So many times we have gotten to the house and multiple others were arriving, already there or just leaving. Apparently we pick the most hopping places. Many times, as many as six (6) so far at least, we have started to verbalize offers to our real estate agent and then we find out that an offer was already accepted. Talk about feeling a day late, and maybe a couple dollars short.
We do joke with the REA that if they have any houses that they need to sell, just give us the address and we will set up a viewing, go look at it, and it will be sold in a few hours, maybe days. But we both understand that the house that is for us is out there. We just have to be patient and wait on the Lord for His timing.
Side Note – neither one of us would recommend looking at more than three, maybe four, houses in a day. Yeah, we looked at six in one day, put them all in a five hour time-frame, that was rough, needless to say. It was nice having it all done in one day, however, it was a lot and very exhausting seeing that we were trying to make a decision on a home to buy, not just browsing.
